Photosynthesis depends on upon the absorption of light by pigments in the leaves of plants. The most important of these is chlorophyll a, but there are several accessory pigments that also contribute. Chlorophyll a absorbs its maximum energy from the blue and red wavelengths. Blue light is of higher frequency than red light and it has more energy in one photon than red light and is absorbed maximum during photosynthesis.
