The weight of a solid is 80g in air and 50g in a liquid of relative density 1.5. The specific gravity of the solid is -
4
Weight of solid in air =80 g
Weight of solid in liquid =50g
Loss of weight of solid in liquid =80-50 =30g
Weight of equal volume of liquid by Archimedes prinicple =30g
If the displaced liquid has a volume v cm3, then its weight = v×1.5=30g
V=20cm3
Since solid is completely immersed in liquid, so volume =v
The volume of water displaced =20cm3
Weight of this displace water =20g
So, we have specific gravity of solid ==wt of solid in airwt of water displaced=80g20g=4
