The weights of five cartons of books are in the ratio 2:3:4:5:6. If their total weight is 400 kg, find the weight of each carton.

Let the weight of each carton be 2x,3x,4x,5x,6x respectively. Since the total weight is given as 400 kg, then,

2x+3x+4x+5x+6x=400

20x=400

x=20kg

Therefore,

Weight of the first carton is 220=40kg.

Weight of the second carton is 320=60kg.

Weight of the third carton is 420=80kg.

Weight of the fourth carton is 520=100kg.

Weight of the fifth carton is 620=120kg.
