Question

The work done by a body on the application of a constant force is directly proportional to the distance traveled by the body. Express this in the form of an equation in two variables and draw the graph of the same by taking the constant force as 5 units. Solution

The correct option is A

0 unit

Step 1: Plotting graph

Workdone=Force×Displacement

Let x units be the distance traveled by the body and y units be the work done by a constant force.

According to the problem work done when 5 unit force is applied will be,

y=5x --------- (i)

Now, putting the value x=0 in (i)

y=5×0y=0

So, the solution is 0,0

Putting the value x=1 in (i)

y=5×1y=5

So, the solution is 1,5

Now, putting the value x=2 in (i
y=5×2y=10

So, the solution is 2,10

Step 2: Calculating work done

x represents distance and y represents work done,

So, When x=0 units (distance)

Putting the value of xin equation (i)
y=5xy=5×0y=0

Thus, work done = 0.

Hence, the correct option is A is correct.
