Question

The worker done by a body on application of a constant force is directly proportional to the distance travelled by the body. Express this in the form of an equation in two variable and draw the graph of the same by taking the constant force as 2 units . Read from the graph the work done when the distance travelled by the body is 0 units.

Solution

Let the work done by constant force be y units and the distance travelled by the body be x units
By the given condition y x
i.e., y = kx, where k is constant
As the constant force is given to be 2 units.
y = 2x
Now when x = 0, y = 0
When x = 1, y = 2
when x = 2, y = 4
Table of points is:
x012
y024
Plot the points (0, 0), (1, 2) and (2,4)
By joining these points, we get the required graph.
Clearly, when x = 0, y = 0
Therefore, when the distance travelled is 0 units the work done is also 0 units.
