The expansion of employment opportunities in the organised sector was very slow, hence many people were compelled to join the unorganized sector for employment. The employees in the unorganized sector face problems on myriads of issues.

Protection of Workers in Unorganized Sector – Wage Issues

  • The salary of the workers is very low.
  • The earnings of the workers are not regular.
  • Workers are not given a fair wage and they are exploited to work more.
  • Jobs of the workers are not secure.
  • These jobs do not give any extra benefits to the workers.
  • The laws to protect the labourers are not followed and strategies are used to evade taxes by such enterprises.

Protection for Unorganized Sector Employees – Lack of Health Benefits

  • People working in the unorganized sector are not given any extra benefits, including health benefits.
  • If the nature of the work involves risks, they are not provided any protection.
  • It is also seen that majority of the workers in Unorganized sector are people from backward communities, scheduled tribes, scheduled tribes.
  • These workers also face social discrimination, besides being paid low wages and irregular nature of the work.

If the country has to see social development and economic development, then it is imperative that unorganized sector workers in both rural and urban areas must be protected.
