Solution

Instruction- Briefly discuss the powers vested to high courts by Article 226.

Answer
Writs are constitutional remedies and both - High Courts and the Supreme Court enjoy jurisdiction over this. Articles 226 vests the High Courts with the power to issue writs in case of both - legal and fundamental rights. However, despite being the apex court, the Supreme Court only issues writs in cases related to fundamental rights. Hence, the writ jurisdiction of the High Courts is greater than that of the Supreme Court.
