The Tea Act enabled the Company to ship its tea directly to the American colonies without first landing it in England. Since the Company was no longer required to pay tax in England, it enabled the Company to sell at a very low price. The act gave the East India Company a monopoly of distribution of tea in the thirteen colonies. This triggered the other colonists and led to the American War of Independence.
