Question

The yellowish tinge of nitric acid cannot be removed by the dropwise addition of water to it.

Since the yellow tinge is due to presence of NO2 in HNO3. By the addition of water drop by drop to nitric acid, nitrogen dioxide present in it gets converted to nitric acid (HNO3) and it become almost colourless by this process.
