so we equate it

$(x+\frac{5x}{100})(\frac{5}{100}+1)1=15435$

$\frac{105x}{100}\times \frac{105}{100}=15435$

$x=\frac{147\times 100\times 100}{105}=140\times 100=14000$

The population 2 years ago is $x=14000$
