In humans there are normally 12 pairs of ribs. The first seven pairs are attached directly to the sternum by costal cartilages and are called true ribs. The 8th, 9th and 10th are called false ribs as they are connected to the sternum indirectly via the costal cartilages of the ribs above them ie via 7th. The 11 and 12 rib pairs do not connect to the sternum at all and they are called Floating ribs.
So the given statement is false.
