Position of the history book
= 5th from the left

Position of the geography book
= 8th from the right

Let's draw a number line to show the position of both the books.


Hence, from the diagram above, we can see that there are two books between the history and geography books.

We can also use the method given below to determine the same.

The number of books between the history and geography books is
= Total number of books – (Position of the history book from left + Position of the geography from right)
= 15 – (5 + 8)
= 15 – 13
