Question

There are 18 rings on the rod. Harshita is trying to group them. She can put them in groups of 2, 3, 6, 9 and 18 — without any ring being left. How many groups will she have if she makes groups of 3 rings each?

Solution

Here, 2,3,6,9 and 18 are factors of 18.
Total number of rings = Number of rings in 1 group × Number of groups
Doing the factorization of 18, we will get:
18=1×18
=2×9
=3×6
=6×3
=9×2
=18×1
Here, we are making groups of 3 rings in each group.
So, number of groups made = 6
