Solution

Determine the number of boys and girls in Juan's class.

Let us assume g represents the number of girls and b represents the number of boys in Juan's class.

It is given that the total number of student in Juhan's class is 24.

g+b=24(1)

The ratio of girls to boys is 1:2.

g:b=1:2gb=12b=2g(2)

Substitute 2g for b in equation (1).

g+2g=243g=24g=8

Substitute 8 for g in equation (2).

b=2·8b=16

Hence, the number of boys and girls in Juan's class are 16 and 8 respectively.
