There are 30 tickets numbered from 1 to 30 in a box. A ticket is drawn. What is the probability that the ticket drawn

(i) bears an odd number.

Let S be the sample space.
∴ S = {1, 2, 3, 4,..., 30}
Or,
n(S) = 30
Now,
Let A be the event that the ticket drawn bears an odd number.
∴ A = {1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29}
Or,
n(A) = 15
Thus, we have:
P(A) = n(A)n(S)= 1530=12
∴ Probability that the ticket drawn bears an odd number = 12
