Solution

Say:
Let us find the number of bottles of water and then find the total number of bottles.

Steps:
  • The number of bottles of water is twice the number of bottles of juice. So, 32 + 32 = 64.
  • Therefore, there are 64 bottles of water.
  • Now to find the total number of bottles, we will add the number of bottles of juice and the number of bottles of water, i.e., 32 + 64.
  • Break down 32 into 3 Tens and 2 Ones, represented by 3 rods and 2 units.
  • Break down 64 into 6 Tens and 4 Ones, represented by 6 rods and 4 units.
  • Add the Ones first, i.e., 2 + 4 = 6
  • Next, add the Tens, i.e., 30 + 60 = 90
  • Further, add the Tens and Ones, i.e., 90 + 6 = 96
  • Therefore, there are 96 bottles in total.
  • Hence, option A is correct.
WB: If required, use the whiteboard to break down the numbers and draw rods and units to solve the equation as shown.
