The correct option is B (65−23)−32
Total number of chairs = 65
Number of chairs occupied by men = 23
Number of chairs occupied by women = 32
∴ Number of unoccupied chairs
=65−23−32
=(65−23)−32
=42−32=10
Also, 65−(23−32)=65−(−9) =65+9 =74
Clearly, (65−23)−32≠65−(23−32), as subtraction is not associative.
Total number of chairs = 65
Number of chairs occupied by men = 23
Number of chairs occupied by women = 32
∴ Number of unoccupied chairs
=65−23−32
=(65−23)−32
