Solution

The correct option is B 5
Say: The total number of candies is given, out of which a few are yellow.

Ask:
What is the total number of candies?
Ans: 8

What is the number of the yellow candies?
Ans: 3

How many pink candies are there?
Ans: 5

How did you find the answer?
Ans: By subtracting the smaller number, i.e. 3, from the greater number, i.e. 8. We get a difference of 5.

Hence, Option C is correct.

WB: If required, use the whiteboard to represent the total number of candies using counters on a number frame. Then cross out the number of yellow candies as shown and write the subtraction equation.

Probing Q: Can we subtract a bigger number from a smaller number? Why?
A: Subtracting a bigger number from a smaller number will result in a negative answer, since we are taking away more than what we started with.
