There are
There are three earth orbits which are named on the basis of the height from the earth's surface.
A High Earth Orbit(HEO) is a geocentric orbit with an altitude entirely above that of a geosynchronous orbit (greater than 35,780 kilometers). They are used in the applications like meteorology and for television, telephone and for radio etc.
A Medium Earth orbit(MEO) is the region of space around Earth above low Earth orbit and below geostationary orbit. That is, it's between 2000 Km and 35780 Km. Satellites for navigation, communication, and space environment science are used in this region. The Global Positioning satellites revolve in these orbits.
A Low earth orbits (LEO) are satellite systems used in telecommunication, which orbit between 180 and 2,000 Kms above the earth's surface. They are used mainly for data communication such as email, video conferencing and paging. They move at extremely high speeds.
