There is a hall 50 m in length and 40 m in breadth. There is verandah 5 m wide surrounding the hall on all the four sides outside. Find the area of the verandah.
Length of the hall =50 m
Breadth of the hall =40 m
⇒ Area of the hall =50 m×40 m=2000 m2
i.e., Area of bigger rectangle =2000 m2---(1)
It is given that, width of the =5 m
⇒ Inside the hall,
length =50 m−2×5 m=50 m−10 m=40 m
breadth =40 m−2×5 m=40 m−10 m=30 m
⇒ Area of the inside the hall =40 m×30 m=1200 m2
i.e., Area of smaller rectangle =1200 m2--(2)
Now,
Area of verandah = area of bigger rectangle − area of smaller rectangle
=2000 m2−1200 m2
=800 m2
Hence, Option C is correct.
