There is a rectangular lawn 10 m long and 4 m wide in front of Meena’s house (as shown in figure below). It is fenced along the two smaller sides and one longer side leaving a gap of 1 m for the entrance. Find the length of fencing.

Given, the width of the lawn, AB = EF = 4 m, and length of the lawn, BE = 10 m

[2 marks]

Also, given the length of the gap, CD = 1 m

Total length of fencing = AB + (BC + DE) + EF = AB + (BE - CD) + EF = 4 m+(101) m+4m=4+9+4 m=17 m

Hence, the length of fencing of the lawn is 17 m.
