• Water shortage/ scarcity is insufficient freshwater resources to meet the human and environmental demands of a given area.

We talk about water shortage it is because only a small fraction of water is fit for consumption. Most of the water that exists on earth is in seas and oceans which are unfit for drinking because of high salt.
