Question

There is hypertension due to smoking. Give scientific reason

Open in App
Solution

  1. Smoking causes damage to your blood vessels and the arteries harden, which makes the blood pressure to rise and hence hypertension occurs.
  2. Cigarette smoking or even being exposed to high amounts of second-hand smoke has negative effects on your heart and blood vessels. Not only does nicotine increase your blood pressure but it also boosts your heart rate and causes arteries to narrow and constrict. If the restricted blood flow is long-drawn-out in the arteries, a heart attack or deadly blood clots may result. Cigarette smoking also worsens other health problems related to high blood pressure such as pulmonary problems. Even light smoking can increase the risk of hypertension. There is good evidence that 1 to 4 cigarettes per day raises the risk of coronary heart disease.
