Plenty of rain to India is only during the monsoon season.
Most of the months, India remains dry.
Even during the monsoon season, Northwestern India and western India and rain shadow regions of western ghats do not receive rainfall.
According to World Bank report, only 38 % of the Indian land is reliably irrigated. The remaining unirrigated land is dependent on rain-fed irrigation.
