Question

There is some unknown volume of water in a tumbler of 2 L capacity. When 600 mL of water was added to the tumbler, it is observed that the tumbler was three-fourth filled. What is the initial volume of water in the tumbler?

Since 1 L = 1000 mL,
Capacity of tumbler = 2 L = 2 × 1000 mL = 2000 mL
34 of capacity of tumbler = 3 × (2000 ÷ 4)
= 3 × 500
= 1500 mL.

We know that when 600 mL water was added, volume of water inside the tumbler becomes 1500 mL

Initial volume of water = 1500 mL - 600 mL
= 900 mL
