Question

Thermal decomposition of ___ gives Lead oxide, Nitrogen dioxide and Oxygen (lead carbonate/lead nitrate)

Open in App
Solution

1. Thermal decomposition

Thermal decomposition is a type of reaction in which the decomposition of reactant takes place in the presence of heat. A large amount of energy gets consumed by the reactant to undergo decomposition.

2. Thermal decomposition of Lead nitrate

The thermal decomposition of Lead nitrate forms Lead oxide PbO, Nitrogen dioxide NO2 and Oxygen O2. The chemical reaction is:

2Pb(NO3)2(s)Heat2PbO(s)+4NO2(g)+O2(g)

The thermal decomposition of Lead carbonate will form Lead oxide and Carbon dioxide.

So, the thermal decomposition of Lead nitrate gives Lead oxide, Nitrogen dioxide, and Oxygen.
