Solution

There are some microscopic organisms that feed on the dead bodies of organisms and decaying organic matter, called decomposers. Example: fungi and bacteria.

Animals that eat dead animals are called scavengers. Example: vultures and hyenas.

  1. Decomposers and scavengers break down the complex organic compounds present in the remains of dead plants and animals into simpler substances.
  2. They are useful in releasing nutrients from dead, decaying organisms back into the environment.
  3. These nutrients are reused by plants.
  4. Thus, decomposers and scavengers help in the recycling of nutrients.
