Parasitic organisms use a host to fulfil their nutritional requirements and survive by living in (endoparasitic) or on (ectoparasitic) the host.
Endoparasites live inside their host and leech off their nutrients and can cause diseases such as ascariasis caused by roundworms living in the intestines.
Ectoparasites such as ticks or lice live on the outside of the host and feed on the host’s nutrition by sucking on their blood. This can also lead to infection at the site of the parasite.
