The Indian National Army (INA) was formed by Indian nationalists like Mohan Singh and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in Singapore in 1943. Japan supported it, and its objective was to oust the British from India. The soldiers of the Indian National Army marched into Assam through Burma on the 1st of March 1944 and laid siege to Imphal. However, with the weakening of Japan towards the end of the Second World War, the INA was defeated at Rangoon in 1945.
