Jagdish Chandra Bose (J.C. Bose) invented the crescograph, a device for measuring the growth of plants. His major contribution was the demonstration of the electrical nature of the conduction of various stimuli in plants.
V. S. Rama Das was an eminent botanist and plant physiologist with major contributions in the areas of C3, C4 and CAM photosynthetic systems, stomatal movement and physiology of herbicidal action. The most notable among his findings are discovery and characterization of several C4 plants in locally, the occurrence of CAM in non-succulent shrub species and discovery of growth-regulatory substances.
Parmeshwaran Krishnan Kutty Nair (P.K.K. Nair) is considered as the father of Indian palynology. His major research contributions in palynology include pollen morphology in relation to plant taxonomy and the triphyletic theory of the origin of angiosperms.
