The correct option is D Organism exhibits protandry, so testis have released sperms and ovary is yet to mature
Cross fertilization brings benefit of mixing of genetic material to an animal or plant. An animal or plant can be hermaphrodite meaning it can produce both male and female gametes but the animal or plant can use the male gamete produced in the same body or can use male gamete from another plant or animal. For example, earthworms are hermaphrodite but cross fertilization is the rule. The two worms lie close to each other to exchange sperms which are stored in pouches called spermathecae. Some animals and plants show protandry, i.e., male gametes mature before the maturation of female gamete or protogyny, i.e., female gametes mature before the maturation of male gametes. This phenomenon is called as dichogamy in plants. This is an adaptation to promote cross fertilization in hermaphrodite animals and flowers. Thus, the correct answer is option D.
