The correct option is A If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.
ADH (Antidiuretic hormone) is released in response to diuresis (loss of water from body through urine). ADH is secreted from the posterior part of pituitary gland and increases the reabsorption of water in the distal part of the tubule of nephron as well as the collecting ducts.
Diabetes insipidus is a rare disorder which causes excess urination in the affected persons. Kidneys are unable to concentrate the urine due to insufficient production of antidiuretic hormone (ADH). This leads to excessive water loss and thus the thirst centres are much activated to drink more and more water.
Hence, both the assertion and reason statements are correct, however, the reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.
