Among different functions performed by auxin, prevention of abscission is one of the important functions. Falling of leaves and fruits at early stages of development are symptoms of early abscission and these can be prevented with the help of plant growth promoting regulator, auxin.

Contrary to prevention of abscission at early stages of fruits and leaves by auxin, it promotes abscission of older fruits and leaves.
