Question

Three capacitors of capacitances 4μF,6μF and 8μF are connected in parallel.
(i) What is the ratio of charges?
(ii) What is the ratio of potential differnces?

Open in App
Solution

(ii) : Potential difference is same across the electrical components which are connected in parallel to each other.
Thus potential difference across the three capacitors is same (or equal), hence ratio of potential differences is 1:1:1.
(i) : Given: C1=4μF C2=6μF C3=8μF
Charge on capacitor, Q=CV
QC (as V is same across the capacitors)

Thus ratio of charges Q1:Q2:Q3=C1:C2:C3
Q1:Q2:Q3=4:6:8
Q1:Q2:Q3=2:3:4
