The masses m1=300 gm, m2=400 gm, m3=500 gm are placed at x1=0, x2=40 cm, x3=70 cm respectively as shown in the above figure.

Applying the formula for x coordinate of COM of system:

xCOM=m1x1+m2x2+m3x3m1+m2+m3

=(300×0)+(400×40)+(500×70)300+500+400

=16000+350001200=1704=42.5 cm
