Solution

x p(x)xp(x) x2p(x)

First six positive integers are 1,2,3,4,5,6.
Therefore, Three numbers are selected at random without replacement so, total no. of ways 6C3=20.
Let, x denote the larger of three numbers.
So, x can take values 3,4,5,6.
p(x=3)=120

p(x=4)=320

p(x=5)=620

p(x=6)=1020
Refer the tabular column:
mean=xp(x)

=320+1220+3020+6020

=15020=5.25
Variance =x2p(x)(xp(x))2

=(56720)(10520)2

=28.3527.56=0.79.
