Let the numbers be a,ar,ar2
If ar is doubled then,
2ar=ar2+a2
4ar=ar2+a
4r=r2+1 by dividing both sides by a
r24r+1=0 which is quadratic in r
(r)22×r×2+2222+1=0 by using the completing the square method
(r2)24+1=0
(r2)2=3
r2=±3
r=2±3
As it is an increasing G.P we have r=3+2
