Three prizes are to be distributed in a quiz contest. Total prize is Rs.1000. Second prize will be given $\frac{3}{4}$ of the first prize and third prize will be given $\frac{1}{3}$ of the second prize. Find the money given to each contest. [4 MARKS]

Let the prize given to the winner = x

Second prize
$=\frac{3x}{4}$

Third prize
$=\left(\frac{3x}{4}\right)\times \left(\frac{1}{3}\right)=\frac{x}{4}$

Sum of all the prizes
$=x+\frac{3x}{4}+\frac{x}{4}$

$2x=1000$

$x=500$

Money given to first prize
$=Rs.500$

Money given to the second prize
$=3\times \frac{500}{4}=Rs.375$

Money given to the third prize
$=\frac{500}{4}=Rs.125$
