Question

Three slabs are arranged one over the other, as shown in the image. The optical density of the slabs 1, 2 and 3 are a, b, and c respectively. Based on the path of the light, determine the relationship between the optical density of the three slabs.

A
a>b>c

B
a<b<c

C
a=b=c

D
a<c<b

Solution

The correct option is C a=b=c
When light ray travels from optically rarer medium to optically denser medium, it deviates toward the normal and when light ray travels from optically denser medium to optically rarer medium, it moves away from the normal.
Here the light rays are not deviating from its path, so we can say that the optical density of all the media are the same, that is a=b=c.
