$x=$ large water bottle
$y=$ small water bottle
As per the given statement we form an equation,
$3x+5y=17$ ---- (1)
$2x+y=9$ ---- (2)
From equation (1)
$5y=173x$
$y=\frac{17-3x}{5}$
Put the value of y in equation (2)
$2x+\frac{17-3x}{5}=9$
$10x+173x=45$
$7x=4517$
$x=\frac{28}{7}$
$x=4$
Therefore one large water bottle will hold 4 litres of water
