Question

Three torches A, B, and C as shown in the figure are switched on one by one. The light from which of the torches will not form a shadow of the ball on the screen.

Shadow formation:

Due to the presence of the obstacle in the path of the light, the shadow is formed.

  1. In the above figure 11.7, we can see that torches A and B are put in front of the screen to generate a picture. Even though light travels in a straight path, if torch C is positioned parallel to the screen, it will not cast a shadow of the ball.
  2. Furthermore, the shadow is generated on the path from where the light is entering, however, there is no screen or opaque object on the bottom to receive the shadow.
