Question

Threshold frequency of a metal is f0. when light of frequency v=2f0 is incident on the metal plate, the maximum velocity of the electron that is emitted is v1. When the frequency of incident radiation is 5f0, and the maximum velocity of the emitted electron is v2, find the ratio v1v2.

Solution

The correct option is B 1 : 2
K.E. of ejected electron is given by the equation,
12mv2=h(ννo), where νo is threshold frequncy and ν is incident frequency.
i) when ν=2fo
12mv21=h(2fofo)=hfo ...1
ii) when ν=5fo
12mv22=h(5fofo)=h4fo ..2

From the eqn 1 and eqn 2, we get
v1v2=1:2
