Question

Through which process is water absorbed by root hair?

Open in App
Solution

Osmosis:

  1. Outgrowths of the specialized epidermal cells near the tip of a plant root are known as root hair, sometimes known as absorbent hairs.
  2. Rarely do they have branches; instead, they are lateral extensions of a single cell.
  3. As a result of their length and thinness, they can easily pierce minuscule soil particles
  4. Only in the root's maturation zone are root hairs present and only they can absorb the most water.
  5. Through osmosis, water is absorbed.
  6. A semipermeable membrane is used in this procedure to transfer water, or the solvent, from a high water concentration to a low water concentration.
  7. Water only moves from the soil to the root hair cells because the concentration of water in the soil is higher than that in the root cells.
  8. Adsorbed water eventually reaches the leaves, where it is used for photosynthesis.
