Solution

Thyrotrophin or thyroid-stimulating hormone is a pituitary hormone that stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroxine(t3), and then triiodothyronine(t4) which stimulates the metabolism of almost every tissue in the body. Here the blood test is done to check for thyroid gland problems that is, hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. TSH is produced when the hypothalamus releases a substance called thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH). TRH then triggers the pituitary gland to release TSH. TSH is produced by the pituitary gland, a tiny organ located below the brain and behind the sinus cavities.
