Thyroxine is secreted from thyroid gland. It is secreted in the form of T4 or tetraiodothyronine from the follicles of thyroid gland in the body. From the blood stream it is carried to liver and kidney where it is converted in its active form T3 or tetraiodothyronine. T3 is more potent than T4. Moreover, half life of T4 is more than T3. It increases oxidation of glucose in tissues and regulates the metabolic rate of body.
