Distillation is a separation technique which can be used to remove dissolved minerals from water.

In distillation, the mineral water is heated until it evaporates completely, leaving the mineral salts behind. Then the water vapours are collected in a condenser and cooled down back to water.

This water obtained as distillate from the condenser is free from minerals and it is called distilled water. This distilled water is used in car batteries and inverters as well.
