Actual Diameter of rod = 9.94 mm

Length of thread = 156 mm

The student wound the thread 5timesaround the rod.

which is equal to 5circumference of the rod.

Step 2: Formula

circumference=πD

5x(circumference)=156mm5πDmeasured=156mm

Dm=156×75×22=9.93mm

Hence the diameter of the rod found by the thread method is 9.93 mm.

Actualdiameter=9.94mm

Eorror=(Dactual-Dmeasured)=9.94-9.93=0.01mm

since the measured value is less than actual

error=-0.01mm .
