The exhaust fan which is fitted near the ceiling of the kitchen will expel the hot air more effectively.
Hot air rises up, so the exhaust which is fitted near the ceiling will be able to expel out hot air more effectively, as hot air will go straight upwards.
In the exhaust which is located on the side, the air won't go directly through it.
Some hot air will pass and the majority of it will go upwards.
This makes the one on the side less efficient.
