To extract potassium K from Karnalite (KCl.MgCl2.6H2O), the reduction process used is
electrolysis
Metals like sodium - Na, potassium - K, and aluminium - Al etc., are highly electropositive. In other words, the oxides of these metals are very stable and thus are difficult to reduce by carbon reduction (or any other methods). So, electrolysis is employed to extract such reactive metals from their corresponding ores.
