Question

Solution

The reaction of quicklime with water is highly exothermic. Hence, the solution gets warmed up although it was not being heated.

Calcium oxide (CaO) commonly known as quicklime dissolves in water to form slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) Ca(OH)2.

The reaction occurs as follows:

CaO (s) +H2O (g) 🡪 Ca(OH)2 (aq) + heat

This is a combination reaction and also an exothermic reaction.
